Once upon a time (on the 18th day of May
1983 A.D. to be more precise), on a beautiful island found in the middle of the Indian Ocean
(which is the one and only
Mauritius), I was
born. (sorry for the anti-climax). Consequently, my zodiac sign is Taurus and
this explains why I have such an aggressive character.... NOT!. From 1989 to 1994 , I attended the Shri Rajiv Gandhi Government
situated at
Central Flacq, where I had lots of great friends (which are still among my best
friends). At the end of this wonderful 6 years at the primary
school, I was ranked 63rd in Mauritius in
the C.P.E exams and was so glad that I would soon be part of the 'elite' of the
country. :)
From 1995 to 2001, I
attended the prestigious Royal College of Curepipe. I forgot to mention that
this was one of my childhood aspirations. When I as a kid, every time that we
would go through Curepipe, passing in front of the Royal College, my mum would
say 'Ala to college' and I would smile happily.
In fact, the Royal College of Curepipe has such a glorious past and a very
strong symbolic value that all of us, the Royalists, feel extremely proud of
our college. I got
an aggregate of 9 (6A & 2B) for the School Certificate (O level)
with 1 in Computer Studies. I
was elected as School Prefect for the year 2001.
In 2001, for the H.S.C. exams, I did Mathematics, Physics and Computing at A level scoring grade A in all the subjects. I came out first in Computing for the whole of Mauritius, obtaining 3 distinctions (1) in all the 3 papers, which is not common. In Mauritius, only two pupils had managed to do it in 1999. I was very happy for achieving this and coming out first in Mauritius in this subject as it was my favourite one. Click Here to See the Detailed Rankings for Computing for H.S.C. 2001.
I then had to worry about university and this was quite hard given the wide choice of countries and programmes available. I was then offered a half-tuition fee scholarship by CITY University, LONDON, for the full duration of my course and this greatly influenced my decision to come to the UK. I thus started my BEng (Hons) degree in Computer Systems Engineering in 2002. I loved every part of the degree as well as the experience. After completing my first 2 years with commendation, I did a 1 year industrial placement at IBM UK. This was an optional part of my degree and I was more that happy to secure a position at the world's biggest IT company. I was based in Portsmouth, in the south of England and this was a very enriching experience for me. When I finished my year at IBM, I started a summer internship at the prestigious investment bank which is Goldman Sachs. Working as an Technology Analyst in the city was well nice. It is a completely different world with the top talent, long working hours and the sweet rewards. After this, I was so used to the world of work that I had apprehensions about returning to university for the much dreaded final year of my degree.
However, it was nice to be a student again. Student life has a lot of perks and meeting my good friends who were retuning from placement years as well was great. My placements had helped me improve myself significantly and this transpired throughout my final year. I was a lot more confident, organised and the skills that I had acquired were very relevant to the modules I had. Achieving a First Class was now my aim and I worked a bit harder than before. For my final year project, I developed an automated timetabling application for the School of Engineering at CITY University, using AI concepts. Last July (2006), I completed the degree successfully and I managed to achieve a FIRST CLASS!!!! This was one of the best or THE best day in my life.
I am now working as a Web Programmer in an Online Communications company in London and I enjoy every minute of it. While I code mainly in PHP/MySQL, I also use HTML, CSS, AJAX, JavaScript and XML everyday.

PS: I am sorry for the state of this website with the amateurish designs, extravaganza of colours, more than half of the links broken and the most important; David Beckham with a united shirt still on my Man Utd page. :) This website was done in 2001 when I was still in college and had just started web design. I have started working on a new website which I hope to complete soon. Come back again to check it out.
